Kenya is the original home of the African safari and most famously the Masai Mara for the wildebeest migration and mega predator populations. Most exceptionally, this is where we come to find the black leopard of Laikipia.

Kenya is one of the most phenomenal wildlife areas in the world: together with Tanzania’s Serengeti, the Masai Mara is the home of the great wildebeest migration, which sees over a million animals grazing across the savannah with powerful predators in their wake. Kenya’s Laikipia Plateau is one of the only places in Africa to see black leopard and striped hyena, and its open escarpment hosts all of the wildlife and none of the crowds of the Mara. Mount Kenya is a snow-capped geological masterpiece, Tsavo is an enormous wilderness expanse, Amboseli has the big tuskers, and the coast has Mombasa. There is so much to see in this original African travel destination, rich in culture and natural beauty.

FAQS ABOUT VISITING

Kenya

Is Kenya good for safari?

Yes. Kenya is one of Africa’s greatest safari destinations and is often seen as the original home of the African safari. You can expect classic savannah landscapes, exceptional predator sightings, rich culture, and some of the most famous wildlife areas on the continent.

What is Kenya best known for?

Kenya is best known for the Masai Mara, the Great Wildebeest Migration and powerful predator populations. It is also known for rare black leopard sightings in Laikipia, big tuskers in Amboseli, Mount Kenya, and a beautiful Indian Ocean coastline.

Where is the best place to go on safari in Kenya?

The Masai Mara is Kenya’s most famous safari region, especially if you want migration scenes, big cats and open savannah. Laikipia is another standout area if you want fewer crowds, beautiful escarpment landscapes and the chance to search for the rare black leopard.

Can you see the Great Migration in Kenya?

Yes. You can see the Great Migration in Kenya when the herds move into the Masai Mara, usually from around July to October, depending on rainfall and grazing. This is when river crossings, large herds and intense predator activity can create some of Kenya’s most dramatic safari moments.

What animals can you see on a Kenya safari?

On a Kenya safari, you can see lion, leopard, cheetah, elephant, buffalo, giraffe, zebra, wildebeest, hyena and many plains game species. Depending on where you go, you may also search for black leopard in Laikipia, striped hyena, big tuskers in Amboseli, and rich birdlife across varied habitats.

Is Kenya good for a family safari?

Yes. Kenya is excellent for a family safari because it offers great wildlife viewing, varied landscapes and safari areas that work well for different ages and interests. You can combine the Masai Mara, Laikipia, Amboseli or the coast to create a journey that feels exciting, comfortable and deeply memorable.
