The Future Rangers Program run by GCC works with select schools in the community bordering Kruger National Park, and starting at age 5, uses its in-school conservation education curriculum to plant seeds of passion and develop a love for nature through classroom lessons, field trips, mentorship, and technology. By high school, the learners have identified skills, aptitudes, and interests that align with potential career paths, and by the time they graduate, they are ready to qualify for jobs in the tourism field.
The BHS Foundation wants to fill the next step for these students, which is where our bursary fund helps them get the job training and certification they need to land the careers in conservation they have identified with thanks to the Future Rangers Program.
Nourish Eco Village on the edge of the Kruger National Park is a hub of local enterprise, showcasing and supporting a variety of talented artists, artisans, and craftspeople. Our long partnership with Nourish has given us the opportunity to support small businesses that operate out of their established Sediwa Enterprise Hub, like the beading workshop, which produces our custom BHS Foundation beaded products.
Nourish emphasises integrating local talent, products, and services with the booming safari tourism industry, facilitating various training workshops and providing a platform from which local suppliers can market and showcase their work and establish their careers in crafts. It is a centre of activity that models sustainability. Our Foundation generates financial support for Nourish through beadwork sales, and ongoing monthly contributions towards operations.
