Bhs Foundation
Growing careers, guarding the wilderness
The BHS Foundation was a natural next step in the evolution of BHS, and we officially launched this nonprofit wing of our safari company at the end of 2024 to fill a very specific need in the conservation landscape: springboarding local youths into careers in conservation.

Every successful job in tourism fuels a life of passion and earns an income for a family while sustaining wilderness areas. Our goal is to award the right candidates with bursaries for tertiary qualifications and training that will kickstart their careers, and in turn conserve the wilderness we love.

In our pocket of South Africa where wildlife tourism booms, there are opportunities for careers to flourish. Yet, a growing number of young South Africans are disconnected from wildlife and lack access to the jobs that could change their futures and the future of wild places. Underequipped schools, poor infrastructure, and a diminished flow of benefits from the wildlife economy into local communities has hindered the potential of fulfilling careers in tourism for local people.

Partnerships forged with purpose

Our belief is that by working with key partners who have established their impact in the conservation education sector in primary and high schools, we can help with what comes after school. Through our natural connection to a network of conservationists, visionaries, role-models, and change-makers in the tourism space, we identified partners who align with our goal. Dedicated to bridging the gap between wildlife and local people, these organisations are doing the work on the ground with the help of funds raised through the BHS Foundation.

The Future Rangers Program

The Future Rangers Program run by GCC works with select schools in the community bordering  Kruger National Park, and starting at age 5, uses its in-school conservation education curriculum to plant seeds of passion and develop a love for nature through classroom lessons, field trips, mentorship, and technology. By high school, the learners have identified skills, aptitudes, and interests that align with potential career paths, and by the time they graduate, they are ready to qualify for jobs in the tourism field.

The BHS Foundation wants to fill the next step for these students, which is where our bursary fund helps them get the job training and certification they need to land the careers in conservation they have identified with thanks to the Future Rangers Program.

How to support Future Rangers Program
At the end of 2025 there will be 15 high school graduates whom we would like to help place in either a tertiary education program, an internship, or employment position in 2026. Our goal as the Foundation is to raise USD$20,000 / R370,000 to fund a student's tertiary scholarship.

Nourish Eco Village

Nourish Eco Village on the edge of the Kruger National Park is a hub of local enterprise, showcasing and supporting a variety of talented artists, artisans, and craftspeople. Our long partnership with Nourish has given us the opportunity to support small businesses that operate out of their established Sediwa Enterprise Hub, like the beading workshop, which produces our custom BHS Foundation beaded products.

Nourish emphasises integrating local talent, products, and services with the booming safari tourism industry, facilitating various training workshops and providing a platform from which local suppliers can market and showcase their work and establish their careers in crafts. It is a centre of activity that models sustainability. Our Foundation generates financial support for Nourish through beadwork sales, and ongoing monthly contributions towards operations.

How to support Nourish Eco Village
Supporting our partnership with Nourish is a donation destined to help run the multifaceted enterprise hub. Financing the space dedicated to showcasing and selling locally made crafts, coffee, and clothing is a way to sustain multiple families’ incomes.

Donations help keep training programs running and supply individuals with what they need to keep their small businesses operational.
